The Science of Fun

Does it take a bribe of a Happy Meal to lure your child away from the Air & Space Museum exhibits? Is your holiday shopping list heavy with robotic, space, and animal themed toys? Or maybe your kid just really likes science, engineering, and other left-brain subjects?

If any of the above resonates with you, then take note: This weekend, October 23-24, a two-day Science Expo on the National Mall will be the culminating event of the first-ever USA Science & Engineering Festival. From 10am – 5:30pm both days, there will be over 1500 hands-on science activities and more than 75 shows and performances on four stages, covering topics ranging from robotics to biology, mathematics to anthropology, astronomy to geology, and more. There will be plenty of exhibits to fascinate even the youngest science minds.

Sponsored by Lockheed Martin, the festival is free and will take place on the Mall between 1st and 7th Streets and at other nearby areas — Freedom Plaza, Wilson Plaza, Mellon Auditorium, and the National Museum of Natural History.

For specifics and a schedule of events, visit the USA Science & Engineering Festival website.

PS: That Happy Meal bribe works about 85% of the time.
