All Aboard for Greenberg’s Train & Toy Show

You don’t have to wait until the holidays to see the miniature train displays that thrill kids of all ages.  Greenberg’s Train & Toy Show, the largest of its kind to travel the northeast U.S., is rolling into the area this weekend for a two-day model train extravaganza.

The shows are designed to promote toy trains to even the youngest enthusiast. Huge model train displays that make real train sounds and simulate steam will be on view. Guests can enjoy a variety of workshops and demos.  There will be more than 400 tables of model train paraphernalia available for purchase along with door prize giveaways.  And kids will love going for a ride on the Train on Time Riding Train.

This will all take place at the Dulles Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday, August 27 & 28.  The $7 admission is good all weekend, and kids 12 and under are free.  The show is open both days from 10am -4pm. Get directions here.

Celebrate Winter at Frostival

If you’ve been saying “been there, done that” to the bulk of this holiday season’s family events, then here’s something to refresh your celebratory excitement, and just in time for New Years weekend.   Frostival, the 2nd annual winter festival from Celebrate Fairfax Inc., will take place from December 30 – January 2.  The four days of fun will include musical performances, rides, games, crafts, storytelling, exhibits,  and more.

The indoor carnival will take pace at at the Dulles Expo Center  from 10am – 5pm each day, except for December 31 when it closes at 4pm.  Among the attractions  will be more than 15 interactive rides, bounces, and play areas,  entertainment from Rocknoceros, The Great Zucchini, and Reptiles Alive!, puppet shows, storytellers, kids karaoke, arts & crafts, and science activities.  For a complete schedule of activities and performances, see the Frostival website — the performance line-up changes daily, so if there’s a particular act you want to see, be sure to get tickets for that day.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the door.  Cost is $5/adults, $10/kids 3 -12, free for ages 2 and under.  Weekend passes for all four days are available for both adults ($8) and kids ($18), but must be purchased online.  Note a couple of specials:  On Thursday, December 30, all grandparents 55 and older are free with valid ID, and on Sunday, January 2, all activity duty military and veterans are free with valid ID.

Train Show Rolling into Town

All aboard!  On Saturday and Sunday, August 28-29, Greenberg’s Train and Toy Show is coming to the Dulles Expo Center for a weekend of model train mania.  For train enthusiasts of any age, this is the stuff dreams are made of–there will be hundreds of tables displaying all kinds of model trains, workshops on model train topics, trains and accessories for sale, and mini train rides for kids.

Greenberg’s Train and Toy show is the largest of its kind to travel the northeast U.S.  Dealers and hobbyists are high in attendance,  but the shows are designed to enthrall even the youngest locomotive fans.

The $7 admission price for guests 12 and older is good for Saturday and Sunday.  Kids 11 and younger are free.  The show takes place from 10am – 4pm both days. The Dulles Expo Center is located in Chantilly, VA.  Visit the website for driving directions.
