Calling all DC kids!
There’s going to be a sing-along this Sunday, August 9, at 10am. Only this isn’t your average session with a guitar-strumming musician leading a group of tots in popular children’s tunes.
This sing-along is special, inspired by John Oliver’s recent, glorious Last Week Tonight segment on DC Statehood that, surely, you’ve seen by now. A group of Capitol Hill parents (the same ones who spearheaded the sledding ban protest, #SledFreeorDie) are riding the momentum to bring awareness to DC’s cause. And they’re taking a cue from Oliver to drive the point home.
Not only will the song featured in the segment be the event anthem, DC’s youth will be the ones belting it out — at the U.S. Capitol, no less. I know at least one cool 9-year-old who can’t wait to stand up — and sing for — his state District.
All children of DC are welcome to sing! And everyone is invited to come show their support. If your child wants to join, download the lyrics so they can practice in advance, and here’s the rest you need to know:
