Hiking the Arboretum
Monday – It’s going to be a gorgeous day! Savor it at the National Arboretum or another recommendation from this list of the best places places in the DC area to be enjoy a beautiful day outdoors with the kids.
Tuesday – Have a wild time at the National Zoo, as there’s barely a crowd on weekdays. Check the Daily Programs schedule before you go to help plan your outing or pick your animal visits as you go. Seasonal hours are 10am – 4:30pm. Admission is free, though parking in the Zoo lot for non-members is $16 for three hours, $22 beyond three (free for members). You can also try parking on Connecticut Avenue or a side street, or take Metro to Woodley Park or Cleveland Park stations.
Wednesday – Deliver on fun at the National Postal Museum. It’s a perfect outing for little ones — the museum isn’t very big and overwhelming, there are numerous interactive exhibits to keep young guests engaged, and it’s conveniently located next to Union Station, so you can also grab lunch and get there easily via Metro. Hours are 10am – 5:30pm, admission is free.
Thursday – See the premiere of Art on the Horizon’s newest production Out of the Box, an imaginative play about a young girl who discovers all the possibilities one box can hold. Showtime is 10:30am at Landmark Mall (in the former Regan Dance Center space), and tickets are $8 (free for children under 12 months). The show runs March 1-18 at Landmark Mall, then March 20-25 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Recommended for ages 18 months to 5 years.
Friday – It’s Dr. Seuss’ birthday! In celebration, go see The Lorax as it opens in movie theaters or find a storytime at your local library.
