1. Starting June 25, there will be another 15,000-square-feet to explore on the National Mall! The Lincoln Memorial undercroft will serve as an exhibition space, revealing the concrete foundations and structural supports of the iconic landmark for the first time ever. There will also be interactive exhibits about the construction of the memorial and multimedia elements that highlight its role in American history. Timed-entry tickets will be required to visit, and they are free with a $1 service fee. They are released 30 days ahead of the date at 11am (so tickets for June 26 will be released today) — reserve them on recreation.gov. Be sure to sign on/register on the site first, so you’re ready to go, as they are likely to sell out quickly.
2. There may not be any World Cup matches in DC, but the excitement of the tournament will be here at numerous watch parties around the area. The largest will be the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone on the National Mall from 3rd to 4th Streets. Throughout the entire run of the event, June 11 – July 19, matches will be shown live on big screens, plus there will be interactive exhibits, music, food, and soccer programming. DC United will also be hosting the United in Play Soccer Celebration at Franklin Park in downtown DC June 12-14 and at Tingey Plaza in the Navy Yard June 19-21. Both of those fan-focused events will include youth soccer activities, local food vendors, music, and all-ages fun as well as live viewings of World Cup matches.
3. Check out the New York Times’ Summer Reading Bucket List. It’s a fun little challenge (with a chance to win prizes) and a great catalyst to expand your book picks.
4. Speaking of books, I’m currently reading this incredible, gripping true story.
