40 Free Events in 40 Days at CHAW

In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is hosting 40 free events in 40 days. Starting January 4 and running through February 12, the 40 events explore how art continually engages, inspires, informs, and excites by featuring concerts, performances, workshops, and classes for various ages interests and ages.

“This event is not only a thank you to the community and a celebration of 40 years of art-making, but a launching off point for future innovations in building community through the arts,” says Amy Moore, CHAW’s Director of Education and Programs.  “It is a testament to the arts, not as a luxury or something optional, but as a lifestyle.”

Activities for kids begin this Saturday, January 7, with an animal mask making class and performance.  From 10-11:30am, kids ages 6 and up are invited to bring creatures around the globe to life as they make animal masks then use them in a short play they create with the help of teaching artist, Marina McClure.  Later that day, all ages are welcome to view CHAW’s 6th Annual Contemporary Photography Exhibition from 5-7pm.

Registration is required for the mask making class, and space is limited, so sign up soon. And while you’re on the website, be sure to check out the other 38 free events for both kids and adults, including a 40th Anniversary Concert on Sunday, February 12, to conclude the 40-day celebration.
