Five Things: July 9, 2024

1. The lotus flowers have begun blooming at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens!  This is such a spectacular sight, it’s worth braving the high temps to see.  View scenes from a previous bloom, and read about a fun way to get to them. The park is open daily 8am – 4pm, and admission is free.   The annual Lotus & Water Lily Festival will be held July 19-21 and offers more ways to appreciate the flowers and park.

2. Something to add to your July agenda:  Washington National Cathedral is launching a summer event series, Wind Down Wednesdays, for families to beat the heat and enjoy the Cathedral’s architecture and culture. The program will run for four weeks, every Wednesday from 5:30-8pm, for the rest of this month, starting tomorrow, July 10.  The sessions include activities such as guided mindfulness practices like Tai Chi and yoga, Labyrinth walks, a LEGO exhibit, and live contemplative music. Admission is $15.

3. Have you taken the kids to the LEGO Discovery Center yet? Starting this weekend will be a good time to go.  Not only is it a great way to  stay cool on hot days, from July 12 – August 2, the LEGO DREAMZzz area will offer new activities to enjoy along with the fun already there — read all about that here.  Open daily, and admission is $29.

4. We’re currently traveling and have found this item to be very useful. It packs up easily and compactly, and has come in handy in many situations.

5. I shared some pics from our travels if interested in viewing, and there’s more to come!
