All aboard, little train enthusiasts! Thomas the Tank Engine™ is returning to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, rolling in to the “station” on their annual Day Out With Thomas tour. We love the B&O Museum but have only been once because it’s a bit pricey and out of the way, especially when there are so many world-class museums here in town for free! But my youngest one loves LOVES trains so I think we need to make another excursion to Baltimore.
As four our favorite February activity? I know it’s not exciting, but no matter what the weather, our family loves the Arboretum. We meet friends there every Friday for an informal Forest School-type play group. Last week on our hike through the azalea garden we actually saw snowdrops blossoming! Even in winter it is delightful to visit and spend some time in nature. It’s our favorite DC treasure.

This was the first Valentines Day that my 2 year old kinda knew what was “ going on” it was so sweet to support my older children (2 and 7) in making Valentines cards from scratch and mailing some out to friends and family as well as packing up sweet little treats for their classmates. They were both so proud and happy to share some love!

Despite the cold, we love family hikes in Rock in Creek in February. The trails aren’t too packed, and our four-legged first born gets to join in the fun!
We enjoyed making hot cocoa after a long day playing in the snow!
Our favorite activity this month was going to Skyline Caverns on a cold winter weekend — it was much warmer underground than above ground! And the kids had a great time walking through the caves, listening and learning on the 90 minute tour, and being little explorers.
We enjoyed making up stories, using my son’s Thomas the Train collection, and baking.
My Thomas would love this! We loved some snow day fun!
We enjoyed movie nights and making epic hot cocoa on really cold days.

I think one of the things we enjoyed most was the NSO family concert at Kennedy Center: Let’s Go to the Moon! The visuals and music were amazing, and we all were entranced!

My son and I really enjoyed the Engineering Family Day at the National Building Museum. They provided a wide variety of fun and educational activities for my four-year-old son. He liked playing at the large lego exhibit, as well as getting a chance to meet Jet from Ready Jet Go! Not too mention, getting an opportunity to spin the wheel and winning a Pete the Cat book. It was our first time visiting the National Building Museum-my son had an did not want to go home!
