Monday – Play the day away at Clemyjontri, the brilliantly colored, sprawling playground in McLean that accommodates kids of all abilities. Hours are 7am to dusk, and admission is free.

Tuesday – Catch a performance of How I Became a Pirate at Adventure Theatre. Showtimes are 10am and 12pm, and tickets are $19.50. Plan to play on the playground and picnic at Glen Echo Park after (or before) the show — BYO lunch or purchase food from the Praline Cafe there.

Wednesday – Explore and play, indoors and out, at Potomac Overlook Regional Park in Arlington. Hike the short trails and let the kids romp on the playground. Then visit the nature center where you can see turtles, snakes, and other creatures and learn about the area’s natural environment. Hours are 10am – 5pm. Admission is free.

Thursday – Roam the beautiful grounds and cathedral of the Franciscan Monastery in Brookland. A DC “secret” to many, the site welcomes visitors to stroll through the gardens and tour the church. Hours are 9am – 4:45pm. Admission is free.

Friday – Enjoy the season along with a lower weekday admission fee at Ticonderoga Farm’s Fall Pumpkin Festival. Whiz down slides, bounce on jumping pillows, go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin from the patch, romp on the playground, visit goats and chickens, and much more. Admission is $10.95 on weekdays ($16.95 on weekends and holidays), hours are 9am – 6pm. Read more about Ticonderoga, one of our favorite area farms, here and here.
