Awesome Con, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier pop culture convention, takes place this weekend, June 16-18, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, celebrating all aspects of geekdom and pop culture with a wide assortment of engaging events, comic books, collectibles, toys, games, original art, cosplay and more. And not only do I have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky KFDC reader, kids ages 10 and under can get in free when an accompanying adult uses the coupon code KIDFRIENDLYDC on a kid’s ticket!
The event practically guarantees to be blast for the whole family. For the first time, there will be Awesome Con Jr., a family-focused pavilion providing hours of fun with entertaining and educational programs just for kids. There will be interactive opportunities with characters from Nickelodeon’s hit preschool series PAW Patrol and Shimmer and Shine, plus additional fun experiences from The Emoji Movie, How to Train Your Dragon characters, LEGO building zones, a kids costume parade, and more. And making it easier than ever to spend time together as a family and encourage creative play, children ages 10 and under get in free with the above code.
Awesome Con is also working with GeekDad to present exciting Father’s Day activities on Sunday in a show of appreciation for the awesome dads in attendance. The first 500 dads to attend Awesome Con on June 18 will receive a free, limited edition T-Shirt, and giveaways are scheduled throughout the day with prizes including Awesome Con swag and Washington Nationals tickets. Geek dads of all ages will enjoy events including a Q&A with Stan Lee, the father of Marvel Comics; a classic arcade of nostalgic games; a panel hosted by GeekDad teaching parents how to encourage curiosity in the next generation; and much more!

Our 10 year old son suffers from severe autism. As a result, we don’t get the opportunity to do as many things with our normally functioning 8 and 5 year olds, both of whom are huge superhero and sci-fi fans.
When they saw the AwesomeCon ad on TV the other day, they got hyped, then suddenly sad when they realized that we wouldn’t be able to go because such outings are nearly impossible with our entire family.
A family member has offered to keep our 10 year old this weekend so that my wife and I can do something fun with the younger ones for Father’s Day. I couldn’t think of a cooler thing to attend, and I hope you’ll give us the chance. Thanks!
My son love love loves to dress up in costume gear. I know he would truly enjoy this, as were dealing with a separation battle I would love to give him something to cheer him up and take his mind off of a lot of things his parents are putting him through. I’m so happy the childs ticket is freee, however the adults tickets are really high and i must pay all my other bills, so i’m hoping and praying you guys will bless this family with 2 tickets so myself my mom and my 7 year old will have the opportunity he;ll never forget God bless you
My son would love to meet Stan Lee. He is a huge comics fan.

Paw Patrol!
I’m most excited for everything ?
My family and I just moved here and this would be such an amazing opportunity and a great Father’s Day gift! My husband is military and recently received a promotion and then we got orders to move here so he’s been extremely busy and we haven’t had much family time so this would be a great way to squeeze some time in!
My son has never been before so he’s thrilled about seeing/participating in everything!
I’m would be most excited about receiving the free tshirt.
My father is 60yrs old has never been to a comic book convention but loves comics. So much so that as a young kid he had thousands of books but they were all thrown away because after leaving home my grandmother, his mother, didn’t understand the value. It would bring back a bit of his childhood and allow him to reminisce on the good old days, which is what we all need from time to time. So to answer your question I think my father would be most excited to reconnect with comics he hasn’t seen in a while and see new collections plus be around people who share a love for comic books too.
Anything Lego!
I don’t want tickets. Just wanted to let you know that I have been following your page since before I had a child and now with an active three year old I am always on it. Lol! Anywho, just wanted to say, please continue your page even after your kids are grown please continue your webpage. Even if I don’t use it with my kid, I definitely use it for my classroom. Keep it up! I don’t know how you get all this info. I usually find out after the fact. Thanks again. (Sorry for typos. Should have sent this from the computer.)

We are a family of 4. I’d love to take my husband to this event to celebrate all that is fun about being a kid. We have a lot of stress and pressure and obligations in our day-to-day life (don’t we all!) and letting our hair down and unwinding would be such a treat!
