Where to Play on the Weekdays: March 25-29

Good times at Ticonderoga Farms' Spring Easter Festival

Good times at Ticonderoga Farms’ Spring Easter Festival

Monday – Don’t let the wintry mix get you down. Visiting the U.S. Botanic Garden on a crappy day kind of feels like pulling a fast one on the weather gods. While it’s cold/rainy/snowy outside, you and the kids can walk amid tropical rainforest, desert, and woodland flora without a drop of precipitation falling on you, unless you count the misters in the jungle. Be sure to stop in the “Plants in Culture” exhibit, where you can smell the scents of various plants and learn about their everyday uses. Hours at the USBG are 10am – 5pm. Admission is free.

Tuesday – Read! Build! Play! with LEGO DUPLO at Woodridge Neighborhood Library at 10:30am and at Palisades Neighborhood Library at 4pm. These creative building sessions are filled with guided activities, inspirational songs, and time for free build. (Note: they will also take place on Wednesday at Takoma Park Neighborhood Library at 10:45am and Southwest Neighborhood Library at 3:30pm, and Friday at C. Burr Artz Public Library at 2pm.) Admission at all sessions is free.

Wednesday – See a show: Bring little ones to a performance of From Here to There at Imagination Stage (tickets are $10). If older children are home for Spring Break, check out the reggae-enlivened Three Little Birds at Adventure Theatre (tickets are $19).

Thursday – Take the money tour at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. It’s a perfect outing for kids on break from school, since tours are only offered on weekdays. This post has all the background and details you need to plan for it.

Friday – Celebrate the season at Ticonderoga Farms! Their Spring Easter Festival is currently running, and while the egg hunts only happen on weekends, there is still tons of fun to be had — big slides, playgrounds, a bamboo maze, animals to pet and feed, and the oh-so-awesome jumping pillow. You can get a glimpse of it all in this post about their Winter Festival. Hours are 10am – 5pm. Admission is $8.95 during the week.
