You can't beat the views at Great Falls
Monday – Relish in what might be the last relatively warm day for awhile at Great Falls. Both the Maryland and Virginia sides of the park have trails that are easy for little legs to tramp, great overlooks for viewing the magnificent falls, and visitor centers where you can learn about the wildlife, nature, and history of the area.
Tuesday – Have a wild time at the National Zoo. Visit your favorite animals, including those in the recently renovated American Trail Habitat. Be sure to check the website before you go to see what daily programs are going on. Zoo grounds are open 6am – 8pm, exhibit buildings 10am – 6pm. Admission is free, though parking is $16 for the first three hours for non-members. Look for street parking nearby to curb the cost or take Metro — both the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park stations are a short walk away.
Wednesday – See Out of the Box, Art on the Horizon’s delightful interactive play for little ones, as it returns to the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Showtime is 10:30am. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online through the Atlas website. (Catch a performance November 12-18.)
Thursday – Head to the National Geographic Museum, where all ages will find something to chirp about. Birds of Paradise: Amazing Avian Evolution is an interactive exhibit featuring stunning imagery, compelling video, soundscapes, artifacts, and engaging educational activities. Hours are 10am – 6pm. Admission is $8/adults, $4/ages 5-12, free for 4 and under, but on Thursdays it’s FREE for all kids.
Friday – Celebrate the opening of DC’s newest recreational space at the Ribbon Cutting of Canal Park. The public is invited to join honored guests Mayor Anthony Gray, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Councilmember Tommy Wells at 11am as the park officially opens in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Afterwards, glide for free (rentals included) on the ice skating rink from 12-2pm. Regular rates ($8/adult, $7/kids, $3/rentals) will apply from 2-9pm, with ice performances at the top of each hour from 4pm – 7pm.
