Sometimes I swear the local deal sites and I have a special telepathical relationship. There have been many times that I’ve thought about an activity I want to try or restaurant I want to check out, and, lo and behold, a deal for that very thing shows up in my inbox.

That happened to me this morning. I had been planning to post about a special workshop happening at the National Building Museum this week along with a reminder about the amazing LEGO exhibit still on display and as I checked my email before getting started on the piece, saw LivingSocial’s new DC Family Edition deal for the National Building Museum, a Family Membership Including Six Admissions for the LEGO Exhibit for $40 (an $80 value). In case you’re thinking it’s not worth it because admission to the museum is free, keep in mind that many special exhibits and family events, LEGOS included, require a small fee. Membership also lets you enjoy benefits like invitations to exhibition openings, previews, and curator-led tours; reduced or free admission to special family programs; and early-bird registration and discounts for summer camp, birthday parties, and items at the museum’s shop. Needless to say, I am in on this offer.
Deal aside, the National Building Museum warrants mention this morning. A special activity is taking place there this week that looks and sounds like a fantastic adventure in design and building for all ages. Public Workshop, an organization dedicated to helping individuals, schools and communities achieve great things through design, is leading building experiments in the museum’s Great Hall. I’m not even sure what to call the activity or how to explain it, since I haven’t yet been myself, but these images will give you an idea — and make you want to head over there and get in on the architectural action.
I first learned about the project from a link on No Monsters in My Bed. Then my friend, Jody, from Globe-toddling.com visited the NBM yesterday and raved about it. She and her daughters, ages 2 and 4, spent hours there creating all kinds of white-disc designs and participating in a group build that garnered a five-star fun rating in her book.
You can check it out for yourself through Friday, March 25 Thursday, March 24. From 11am – 5pm each day, you can “help redefine possibility” with all kinds of building adventure and experiments. A daily schedule and more information are available on the Public Workshop website.
