Kick it Family-Style with the D.C. United

DC United Family Pack Tickets

The D.C. United is taking on the Philadelphia Union at home on April 21, and you can make it a family affair with a special ticket package that caters to parents and kids. Take the whole crew out to see the game, plus get hotdogs and drinks, all for one set price.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because I posted about the Family Pack just a few weeks ago. The special promo includes four tickets, four hotdogs, and four drinks, all for just $108. That’s just $27 per person, which isn’t bad at all for an exciting sporting event and dinner.

And as previously mentioned, there’s more than just the game to enjoy at a D.C. United match. The RFK Stadium VW Garage offers fun for fans of all ages. They can “Meet the Fleet” and see all of the latest VW’s as well as product specialists to talk about them. The Zig Zag Challenge, a rotating soccer-skills obstacle course, will test your soccer skills. The Trivia Booth challenges guests to test their D.C. United and Volkswagen knowledge. And little ones will love showing their team spirit by getting their faces painted with D.C. United colors and decals. These all begin when the gates open and lasts through halftime. Just enter through section 222 to participate. In addition, the tailgate area has lawn games and food trucks.

While there are plenty of D.C. United home games left this season, the Family Pack will only be available for a few of them, so get in on it while you can! Along with the April 21 game, it will be offered for the July 27 match against New England and October 27 versus Houston. You can purchase it online through the D.C. United website.

DCU_KidFriendlyDC_Flyer#323

How about kicking off the start of spring with some soccer action? The D.C. United’s new season is underway, and there’s a special Family Pack available for the March 23 match against the Columbus Crew.

Offered only a few times during the season, the Family Pack includes four tickets, four hotdogs, and four sodas, all for just $108. Not too shabby for a meal and an exciting sports show for the family.

And the fun at a D.C. United match goes well beyond the game on weekends. Fans can also enjoy scores of activities in the RFK Stadium VW Garage. They can “Meet the Fleet” and see all of the latest VW’s as well as product specialists to talk about them. All ages will dig the Zig Zag Challenge, a rotating soccer-skills obstacle course. The Trivia Booth challenges guests to test their D.C. United and Volkswagen knowledge. And little ones (and parents, too) will love showing their team spirit by getting their faces painted with D.C. United colors and decals. This all starts when the gates open and lasts through halftime. In addition, the tailgate area has lawn games and food trucks.

So, if your “goal” is a good time with the kids, go check out the Family Pack!

D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew starts at 3:30pm on Saturday, March 23. The Family Pack will also be available for the April 21, July 27, and October 27 games.

Washington Kastles Serve Up Fun & Excitement in DC

Riverfront tennis at a Washington Kastles match

Tennis, anyone? The Washington Kastles, the 2011 World Team Tennis Champions, are getting ready to return to the DC court!  The season began on July 9, and their first home match at Kastles Stadium is tomorrow, July 12, against the New York Sportimes.

The Kastles are the DC franchise of World TeamTennis, the professional league that, you might say, is a complete 180 from Wimbledon. WTT breaks from the familiar traditions of tennis — teams play by a unique set of rules, loud music and fun spectacles occur during the match, and the crowd is not just welcome, but encouraged to be a part of it all. It’s a sporting event that focuses on the fans just as much as the stars.

Owen & friend cheer on the team

As they defend their title, it’s guaranteed to be an exciting season.  Not to mention, some of the sport’s biggest stars are on the team, Serena and Venus among them. Tickets are still available for all of the matches (though the cheap seats are gone for the star-studded ones), and this coming Sunday, July 15, is a Family Night with lots of fun activities for kids and adults around the grounds of Kastles Stadium. Owen and I attended last year, and we had a blast, both during the pre-game festivities and watching the match.  The stadium isn’t huge, so you have a good view no matter where you sit and really feel like you’re in on the action.  Plus, the music, mid-match exhibitions, and the players keep the crowd amped up.

With team mascot, Topspin

And I have to mention the location. Kastles Stadium is located at The Wharf on the Southwest Waterfront.  You get views of the river, a nice summer breeze, and exciting tennis action all at once. If you’re a fan of tennis, it really is a can’t-miss local event.

The Washington Kastles season at home lasts through July 28.  See the full schedule and purchase tickets here.

The Nats Are Back…Along with Some Great Family Promos

Happy Nats fan at a game last season

Opening Day was nearly a week ago, but for Washington Nationals fans, the fun begins tomorrow when the Nats play their first regular season game at home against the Cincinnati Reds.

And if you like attending games, you’re in luck: they’ll be playing at home everyday for over a week in back-t0-back series against the Reds, Astros, and Marlins. Even better, among those home games are a bunch of special promotions geared especially to families.  Here’s the scoop on all of them:

Family Fun Days (April 14,15, 21, 22): Purchase seats in two great sections, Upper Right Field Terrace or Outfield Reserved ($14 & $25) and receive a voucher for a hot dog, chips, and drink with each ticket.

Signature Sundays (April 15 & 22): Before every Sunday home game, around 12:15pm, select players will be available for 20 minutes to sign autographs for fans.

Kids Run the Bases (April 15 & 22): After Sunday home games, kids ages 4-12 can run the bases on the Nationals Park field, with Nats mascot Screech and the Racing Presidents coaching them on the way (there’s often some high-fives from the gang, too).  A heads-up about this: Kids start lining up before the game is over, so depending on long the last inning takes, the wait could be anywhere from not so bad to patience-testing.

Kids Opening Day & Screech’s Birthday (April 22): The first 10,000 fans ages 12 and under to arrive will receive a free Zimmerman jersey.

Tickets are still available for all of the games coming up over the next couple of weeks, though very limited for tomorrow’s home opener.  And this isn’t the last of the special promos; the first three programs will be repeated throughout the season. You can check on dates here, and I’ll post reminders as well.

And if taking kiddos out to the ballgame is a new experience for you, check out this post from awhile back where I discuss all that a family day at the ballpark entails.
