Percy Jackson-Inspired Summer Adventures at Camp Half-Blood & Camp Jupiter

Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter are summer camp experiences unlike any other. Inspired by the “summer camp for young demigod heroes” in the Percy Jackson book series, the award-winning programs aim to bring the exciting adventures of literature to life for kids. From June 26 – August 18, they will be offered for seven, week-long sessions to rising 2nd – 9th graders right in Rock Creek Park!

Campers have the opportunity to learn about and explore the ancient myths and legends of different cultures around the world. From the story of Zeus and the gods of Olympus, to the tales of Eastern deities, and the myths of the Native American tribes, your child will be transported to a world of adventure and imagination.

On a typical day, campers will solve ancient riddles, play tabletop roleplaying games, take a break for a snack, and then battle an army of monsters wearing their custom-crafted armor. Experienced and knowledgeable counselors lead campers on a journey through the myths and help them discover the lessons and values that these stories have to offer.

Founded in Brooklyn in 2010, Camp Half-Blood has since expanded to multiple states, with programs in 13 locations and online. This is the fifth summer it is being offered locally in Rock Creek Park. Cost is $525 per week, and families may register for as many weeks as they like.

There is a special running right now: Register for two weeks before April 1, and receive a 50% discount on the third week!

Camp Galileo — A New Summer Option for Rising 1st-6th Graders!

An exciting, new summer day camp option is available for families in the DC area…  CAMP GALILEO! After nearly 20 years of running award-winning day camps in the Bay Area, SoCal, and Chicago, the unique full-day, week-long day camps are finally coming to the DMV community.  A summer of inspiration and imagination awaits children entering grades 1-6 at Camp Galileo, which will be hosted at the Langley School in McLean June 20-July 29.

Camp Galileo engages kids in hands-on exploration all day long through activities and projects in art, science, and outdoors. There’s no need to choose between indoor or outside summer programs — they have both!  Their proprietary curriculum teaches kids how to fail without fear and practice turning ideas into reality; they do this by teaching an innovator’s process, which is similar to the growth mindset, the scientific method, and design-thinking.  The method is so effective that researchers at the Stanford Graduate School of Education found that Galileo kids persevere at unfamiliar challenges, share their ideas more freely, and respond better in the face of failure. That’s how they’re creating the next generation of innovators that will change the world!

Supported by a safe environment and engaging, high-quality staff, kids get inspired to turn their big ideas into reality. Not only that, traditional camp fun, games, and team  building is incorporated… resulting in a fun-filled summer that campers will remember forever.

Every week brings a new theme, with activities tailored by age:

  • AMUSEMENT PARK ADVENTURE: Step right up to a playful park of your own design.
  • CASTLES AND QUESTS: Embark on an epic journey to medieval times.
  • DINOSAUR DIG: Unearth an adventure of prehistoric proportions.

[Note: They suggest you schedule camp enrollments based on your calendar needs, not the themes; campers often repeat themes when they join  for a full summer and tell us that they enjoy the chance to create new designs, make new friends, and experience different outdoor activities.]

Score your child’s spot at the best new camp around while there’s still space and save BIG on multiple weeks of camp with promo code CAMPTIME50

  • Save $50 on one week of camp
  • Save $125 on two weeks of camp
  • Save $200 on three weeks of camp

Camp Galileo will run 9am – 3pm, Monday – Friday from June 20 through July 29 for kids entering Grades 1-6.  Optional Extended Care is 8am – 6pm.  Learn more on the website or reach out to local Territory Director Selamawit “Sully” Washington if you have any questions.

Camp Galileo believes in a bright future, and they can’t wait for your child to be a part of it at camp this summer!
