There are some things in life that you just can’t picture yourself ever doing. And then you have kids. Suddenly, you (i.e., me) find yourself leading a “marching band” of toddlers around your living room, jamming to songs with lyrics like “So, I jumped into Monday, and I had an ice cream sundae,” and displaying an excessive amount of enthusiasm over large, rumbling vehicles and prehistoric animals. We go to great embarrassing lengths for our babes, because we thrive on their joy. And, oftentimes, we’re surprised at how much we actually like it, too. (Come on, people, Laurie Berkner rocks!)
This has been on my mind as I’ve been contemplating buying tickets to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam coming to the Verizon Center in a few weeks. Twelve-foot-tall, ten-thousand-pound monster trucks will race on, tear up, soar over, and smash through a specially-designed track loaded with obstacles. If your kids like K’NEX monster trucks, they can see some of them in action — on the monster line-up are Grave Digger, Iron Man, Illuminator, Full Boar, Thrasher, and Crushstation.
There are three shows: January 28 at 7:30pm, January 29 at 2pm, then another that evening at 7:30pm. Tickets are $60/VIP seats, $25/Gold Circle seats, and Mid-Level are $20/adults, $10/kids 2-12. Kids under 2 are free. There is also a pit party on January 29 from 11am – 12:30pm, where guests can meet drivers, check out cars up close, and more. According to the website, pit passes are generally available for free at Advance Auto Parts retailers approximately three weeks prior to the show. You have to visit in person to pick up a free pit pass while supplies last. They are also available for purchase at the Verizon Center the day of the show when accompanied by the appropriate event ticket.
So, yeah, this is something that, a few years ago, I never in a million years would have considered attending. Now, though, I think it might be kind of awesome.
