Monday Movie Night at The Coupe

Family Night at The Coupe - it's like their own living room at the restaurant

Kids enjoy a movie during Family Night at The Coupe

Looking for a fun, relaxing way to ease the family into the week? The Coupe in Columbia Heights has it all figured out: Family Night.

Every first Monday of the month starting at 6pm, they present movies for kids along with a special menu for their young patrons. And the kicker: Parents can choose to watch the flick with them or take advantage of their children being occupied and entertained for awhile and sit elsewhere to enjoy a meal — and some grown-up time.

We checked it out for the first time a couple of weeks ago when they hosted a Media Night. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious and has an area with couches where the movie is shown. In the middle was a coffee table with arts & crafts for kids, so they were engaged while waiting for “Despicable Me” to begin.

The Kids Menu ($4.00) includes mac & cheese, chicken tenders, and french toast. And the special Monday Movie Night menu for parents has deviled eggs, stuffed dates, watermelon salad, braised short ribs, duck confit flautes, and quinoa cakes. We got to sample everything, and it was all delicious. And there are happy hour specials on drinks for adults, too ($3 Natty Bohs, $4 Rum Punch, and $5 wine).

Since it was a special media event that night, most of us parents hung out in the same area as the kids among seating just behind them, so we had a chance to talk and mingle while our little ones were absorbed in the movie. But it’s fine with the folks at The Coupe if parents want to sit in a whole other section — as long as their kids are settled in okay, of course.

To top it all off, the food — both kid and adult — was quite tasty, and we all left satisfied with the entire movie and dining experience. I can say with certainty that we’ll be heading there again soon.

The Coupe is located 3415 11th Street NW in Columbia Heights. Family Night take place every Monday. It kicks off around 6pm, but the movie doesn’t start until closer to 6:30pm.
