Snow White on Strings…and at Breakfast

A fairytale classic is about to open at The Puppet Co. and, like most of the theater’s productions, it will be presented with their distinctive “sideways” view.  Snow White and the 7 Dwarves will take the main stage at the playhouse on April 21.  And before you think that’s a spelling error in the title, let the Tolkien spelling of “dwarves” be a hint at the show’s unique take on the tale.

Playwright Christopher Piper put a twist in the story by giving each of the vertically challenged bachelors a special ability. These magical charms help Snow White look beyond the obvious to see how marvelous her new friends really are and discover that everyone has their own strength and weaknesses.  Piper also chose to avoid the contrivance of yet another evil stepmother, instead introducing a slightly less familial antagonist.  Of course, the result is the Puppet Co.’s traditional result of everyone living “Happy Ever After.”

The show will run until June 1 with performances Wednesday through Sunday most weeks, and times vary by day, so be sure to check the schedule.  Tickets are $10 for children ages 2 and up and can be purchased online or at the box office.

You can also make this an extra special experience!  Kids and families are invited to dine with Snow White and her Prince on Saturday, May 21.  The Puppet Co. is hosting a fundraiser breakfast that will take place from 9:30-11am in the Spanish Ballroom Annex at Glen Echo Park.  Immediately following the breakfast, guests will attend the 11:30 a.m. performance of Snow White and the 7 Dwarves at the Puppet Co. Playhouse.

Tickets include a full breakfast buffet featuring a scrumptious French toast station, an activity to bejewel a princess/prince crown (all materials are provided), a signed photograph of Snow White and Prince Stephan, and a ticket to performance.  There will also be a photo opportunity with the actors.

The cost of tickets is $60 for children ($30 is tax-deductible) and $75 for adults ($45 is tax-deductible).  Proceeds will go toward the production costs of this brand new show.  Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online or by calling our box office at 301.634.5380.
