Family Giving

On the heels of the holiday season, I can say with certainty that my kids know all about the concept of getting.  It probably wouldn’t hurt to balance that out with some giving.

If you can relate, Volunteer Fairfax,  a non-profit organization with a mission of mobilizing people and resources to meet regional community needs, is hosting an event next Monday, January 17, that will give families an opportunity to give back.

The second annual Give Together a Family Volunteer Day will bring together several non-profits from the region with local families to work on various service projects.  Volunteer efforts will benefit homeless animals, deployed military personnel and their families here at home, children, hospital patients, and orphans.

Not only is Give Together a great way to teach children and families about volunteering,  it’s also a wonderful way to spend some family time on the MLK holiday off from work and school.

The event is broken down into two shifts to maximize the amount of time each participant receives at each service project, and participants can register for either the 10:30am-12:30pm or 1:30-3:30pm shift.

Give Together will take place at George Mason University in Fairfax.  For more information and to register, visit the organization’s website.
