As if Port Discovery wasn’t terrific enough, the interactive children’s museum in downtown Baltimore is about to get even better. This Saturday, February 12, a new exhibit will join the myriad hands-on, curiosity-peaking, educational, and fun displays that kids have been enjoying for years. And the best part: this one was created especially for infants and toddlers, an age group a little too young to enjoy many of the museum’s other offerings.
Tot Trails was developed as a learning environment for both little ones and parents. Young children can explore and discover their world, while parents can learn about their children through interaction and observation, as they see how innovative play educates even the youngest learners. Here’s even more about the exhibit from the Port Discovery website:
While exploring some very unique landmarks and landscapes of Maryland, children and their caregivers will engage in hands-on exploration in a space that sparks imagination and inspires curiosity. Children will delight in the joy of reading and singing, while building language skills as they engage in our Mother Goose on the Loose story times and Jingle Jangle Jamboree with our Museum educators. Infants will develop their gross motor skills and balance coordination as they can crawl, roll, and wiggle through cushioned, mirrored “tidal pools” and “dune walk.” Young toddlers will test their problem-solving skills as they maneuver their way through the Mountain Trail and Paw Paw Tunnel, while exercising their imaginations by digging for fossils and playing with puppets. Visit after visit, caregivers will be encouraged to play, interact, and observe their child as they discover new ways to connect learning and play. Tot Trails also includes a nursing station and family restroom so families can enjoy hours of play without having to leave the exhibit.
A Tot Trails Grand Opening Celebration will take place this weekend, February 12-13. Both days will be full of programs and activities the whole family can enjoy, from moon bouncing and Valentine-making to story time and clown performances. The complete schedule is available on the Port Discovery website.
Admission is $12.95 for ages 2 and up, free for guests under 2. Port Discovery is located at 35 Market Place in downtown Baltimore. Visit the website for directions and parking information.
