Five Things: April 10, 2024

A view of the Wharf from the Jitney

1. The Jitney is running again on weekends at the Wharf!  In case you’re not familiar, this is one of my favorite KFDC tips to share:  The small boat is essentially a free taxi between East Potomac Park and The Wharf.  Parking can be difficult and expensive in the Southwest Waterfront area, but this service lets you park at East Potomac, where there is lots of free parking, then ferry over to the Wharf.  Not only do you avoid the hassle and cost of finding a spot for your car, you get to enjoy a fun, little cruise! It runs 12-6pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Another KFDC Tip: You can enjoy some play time at East Potomac Park/Hains Point, too!

2. The National Cherry Blossom Festival winds down this weekend with the big Cherry Blossom Parade on Saturday and Sakura Matsuri, a Japanese street festival, on Saturday and Sunday.  Both are super fun, signature events of the season and great for families to attend.  Plan to get to the parade route early to get a good viewing spot along Constitution Avenue — it’s forecasted to be a beautiful day (plus, it’s free), so there are sure to be crowds.  Afterwards, you can walk over to the street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue.  There is an admission fee for ages 13 and up — tickets are $15 if you purchase by April 12, and $20 day-of.

3. Does your daughter love to bike or want to learn more biking skills?  Check out Girls in Gear, an organization that offers programs to teach life skills through bike skills. Programs are designed for riders of all ability levels with a focus on having fun and trying their best.  The new sessions begin this weekend, April 13, at several locations around the DC area.

4. Launching today:  The Little Dreamer Box!  Co-founded by local mom Sarah Breitenother, the toy box created for newborns aged 0 to 3 months is carefully designed by play experts to support babies at every developmental milestone. Not only are these toys developmentally beneficial, but they’re also crafted to bring vibrant, fun play experiences into every home. And during this first launch week, you can get $30 off your first order by signing up with your email. They have also released a companion app, available on the App Store and Google Play, that offers all kinds of resources for engaging and stress-free playtime.
