A nature fix at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

Monday – Enjoy the spring weather at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Go on a nature walk among the ponds filled with giant lily pads and other interesting marsh plants and look for geese, great blue herons, turtles, frogs, and tiny fish on the way. Open 7am – 5pm this time of year, and admission is free.

Tuesday – Enjoy storytime at the National Building Museum’s Book of the Month program. Readings of Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty, Engineer will begin at 10:30am & 11:30am. Get there early for play time in the Building Zone, as entry is on the hour ($3/person). After, stay to romp in the Great Hall or check out the PLAY WORK BUILD exhibit upstairs ($8/adult, $5/child).

Wednesday – Visit the digs of first POTUS George Washington at Mount Vernon. Special tours are available throughout the day, or you can roam the grounds on your own. The estate and gardens are open daily 9am – 5pm. Admission is $17/adult, $8/ages 6-11, free for children 5 and under.

Thursday – Enjoy the warmer temps at Georgetown Waterfront Park. Let the kids run through the sprays in the interactive fountain, frolic in the grassy areas, and watch the boats and ducks go by on the river. After (or before, depending on when you go), grab a bite to eat at one of the many nearby eateries.

Friday – Catch a performance of The Puppet Co.’s current production, Pinocchio. Showtime is 11:30, and tickets are $10. Hang out at Glen Echo Park afterwards for some fun on the playground, a spin on the carousel, and lunch from the cafe.
