Monday – If you haven’t yet made it to a fall festival, go while you still can; most are only open for another week or two. And weekdays are a great time to go, when crowds thin out and admission prices are often lower. Take a hayride, visit farm animals, jump and slide, and more. This guide has recommendations for where to enjoy the seasonal fun. And a recent post about a class field trip to Ticonderoga Farms has details on the Chantilly locale.

Tuesday – Discover the history of flight at the College Park Aviation Museum. Guests can view early airplanes up close, dress up like aviators, create flight-inspired art, and more. Keep an eye on the runway right outside the floor-to-ceiling windows — you might see planes take off and land at the College Park Airport, the oldest continuously operating airport in the world! Open daily 10am – 5pm. Admission is $4/adults, $2/children, free for ages 2 and under.

Wednesday – Enjoy the pretty fall weather and foliage at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Go on a nature walk among the ponds filled with giant lily pads and other interesting marsh plants and look for geese, great blue herons, turtles, frogs, and tiny fish on the way. Open 8am – 4pm this time of year, and admission is free.

Thursday – Catch a performance of the The Young Spectaculars and the Front Yard Adventure at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Showtime is 10:30am (same time on Thursday, and 10am on Friday). Tickets are $8.

Friday – See a film on the really big screen at an IMAX movie. You’ve got your choice of several playing right now: Dinosaurs 3D, Flight of the Butterflies 3D, The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D, and Titans of the Ice Age 3D are all playing at the Natural History Museum’s Johnson IMAX Theatre. And the Air & Space Museum’s Lockheed Martin IMAX Theatre presents Air Racers 3D, Hubble 3D, The Dream is Alive, and To Fly! Tickets are $9/adults, $8/seniors, $7.50/youth. Be sure to check schedules for showtimes.
