The last time I went to the 9:30 Club was about seven months ago for the Arctic Monkeys show (hey, fellow fans note the above title). The tickets were a birthday present from my husband, and we had a great time rocking out to the loud, indie rock tunes. If someone had told me then that my next visit to the venue might be with Owen, I would have chuckled, imagining myself chaperoning his first live rock show as a teen, where I’d have to hang in the corner while he pretended not to know me because he was embarrassed to be there with his mom.
But it looks like we’ll be there together much sooner, and I might actually get to boogie with my favorite little guy. On Sunday, August 22, the 9:30 Club is opening its doors earlier than usual—11am to be exact—for Baby Loves Disco, the party that has toddlers and preschoolers putting on their dancing shoes and hitting some of the coolest clubs across the nation. The venue that is usually packed with mostly 20-somethings jamming to loud, live music, will be swarmed with little ones grooving to DJ-spun songs from the 70’s and 80’s. There are many reasons why babes loves this disco: bubble machines; fun dancing props like egg shakers and scarves; a chill-out area with puzzles and books. There are also reasons why parents love it: healthy snacks, diaper changing stations, bar serving grown-up drinks, and, of course, the chance to see their kiddos have a blast.
The 2010 Baby Loves Disco Tour benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity that supports childhood cancer. So, if the price of admission seems steep, know that it’s going to both a great time and a good cause. Tickets are $20/person or $50/Family 4-Pack. Visit the 9:30 Club website to purchase. Be sure to get yours soon, because these events often sell out fast.
