Fall Enrollment is Open at Adventure Theatre MTC Academy!

If your child loves to sing along and act out their favorite movies, Adventure Theatre MTC Academy is looking for them! The ATMTC Academy provides young people (Grades K-12) the highest quality musical theatre training incorporating singing, dancing, and acting all in one class.

ATMTC Academy’s Elementary (Grades K-5) and Pre-Conservatory (Grades 5-8) programs are best way to introduce your young thespian to the genre of musical theater. With weekend and evening class options available, children will delight in the joy of learning step-by-step how to create a complete theatrical performance, adding in all the elements of acting to their song and dance technique. Surrounded by a nurturing and encouraging environment, teachers harness students’ energy and enthusiasm for performing arts to build technique and knowledge in an engaging and inspiring way. There is no experience required, and enrollment is open to all.

Additionally, middle and upper school programs are open for enrollment with weekend options available:

Conservatory (Grades 6-12)
ATMTC’s Conservatory is an integrated 6-hour weekly musical theatre training program that accepts students at all levels of experience. Its curriculum delivers focused technique-based training in the four basic disciplines of musical theatre performance: acting, ballet, jazz, and vocal music. Whether exploring a new avenue for fun or seeking to improve skills for your next role on stage, ATMTC is the key to your child’s stage success. This class meets on your choice of Tuesday/Thursday evenings (3 hours each evening) or Sundays only from 12-6pm.

Pre-Professional Program (Grades 6-12)
The final audition date is coming up! For the serious student, the Pre-Professional Program prepares committed and gifted students in grades 6–12 for college and/or a professional career in the performing arts, led by a highly qualified faculty. The Pre-Professional Program curriculum provides students with inclusive training in Acting, Music, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Voice & Speech, and Performance. To learn more about the program, visit https://adventuretheatre-mtc.org/academy/preprofessionalcompany.html. Class Act: Fall Programs for Kids at Adventure Theatre

Does your child love to perform and have an interest in acting, dancing, and/or singing? Are you looking for an extracurricular activity for kids that is enriching and fun? Adventure Theatre & ATMTC Academy are still accepting students for their fall programs that begin in less than two weeks, with classes for all ages and levels of experience!

Chances are you’ve seen a show or two (or ten) at the Glen Echo venue that is well known for its family-friendly productions. Their plays and musicals, often interpretations of classic children’s stories, are always top-notch, featuring amazing talent, delightful sets, and some of the area’s best theatre experiences for young audiences.

Those high standards are maintained in their class offerings for kids. (I know this first hand, as both Owen and Sasha have participated in — and loved! — summer camp with Adventure Theatre.) Tweens and teens have an opportunity to experience an intensive program that explores many facets of musical theatre, while elementary school aged kids can join classes designed especially for their level of learning.

Conservatory Training
This program provides comprehensive musical theatre training for students in grades 4 through 12. Each semester, Conservatory students receive extensive training in acting, ballet, jazz, music theory, tap, and diction. They also participate in workshops of rotating topics, including Stage Combat, Alexander Technique, Theatre for Social Change, Audition Technique, The Business of the Business, and more. Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:45-8:25pm. The 12-week fall program runs from September 18 – December 16, giving students over 90 hours of training.

Elementary Program
Younger children can get in on the act, too! The Elementary Program includes classes for kids in grades K-5. In Sing, Dance, Act! is an introduction to musical theatre for kids in grades K-1. Broadway Prep delves further into the craft for 2nd and 3rd graders. And Bridge to Broadway offers even more training in musical theater performance for students in 4th and 5th grades. Class days and times vary — you can find more details along with class descriptions here.

Classes are held at the theater in Glen Echo Park and at Wintergreen Plaza in Rockville, MD. For more information and registration, visit the Adventure Theatre MTC website.

Adventure Theatre MTC Academy: Where Kids are Encouraged to Act Up

Final_Logo_Scratchy_Black-01

Does your child love to perform? Are you looking for an active after school activity in a fun setting for your kids, or perhaps a new weekly series for your little one?

Adventure Theatre MTC Academy is getting ready to begin its fall semester, offering performing arts classes for children ages 3-18 that are fun and enriching, and benefit kids on stage and off. Watch below for an informative introduction to ATMTC programs:

Chances are you’ve seen a show or two (or ten) at the Glen Echo venue that is hugely popular among DC area families. Their plays and musicals, often interpretations of classic children’s stories, are always top-notch, featuring amazing talent, delightful sets, and some of the best theater experiences for young audiences around.

Those high standards are maintained in their class and camp offerings for children — and I know this first hand: Both of my kids have participated in Adventure Theatre MTC summer camps, Owen took part for three years, and Sasha made her stage debut this past July. Not only did they have an absolute blast, I loved seeing just how much they got out of the program. Over a two-week session the kids learn an incredible amount about acting and the inner workings of the theatre, which they showcase in a real production that parents and friends are invited to watch. It was obvious they received quality instruction in a fun, encouraging environment.

The Academy provides young people with creative drama and musical theater training, including classes, student productions, ensembles, camps, and workshops based on National & State Fine Arts Standards of Learning. Some of the fun and popular classes on the schedule this fall include:

Lightsaber Adventures – Focusing on stage combat instruction, young Padawans will learn the ways of the force through both simple tasks and challenging missions. This class will teach lessons in safety, focus, spatial awareness, teamwork and self-discipline all within a safe framework of basic stage combat movement.

Acting Up! – One of the most important classes a young performer can take! Students will journey with ATMTC through the process of acting as a professional teaching artist guides them using creative drama techniques through the basics of acting, improvisation, and character development, culminating in an informal presentation of the characters and stories the class created during the semester.

Broadway Baby – This magical introduction to the world of song, dance, and make-believe for little ones will explore music and movement through guided activities in a playful and structured environment designed for the imagination and rooted in musical theater. Props, costume accessories, and themes enhance exploration and movement. Students will work on classroom skills such as following directions, listening, and working with others.

Mini-Play: Mary Poppins – One part exploratory drama, one part improv, all around fun! This class culminates in an informal showcase of work. Participants will explore the classic story of Mary Poppins, its characters, plotline, and sequence, and work together each week to create their own improvised version of the play.

Singing for the Stage – Courses help students establish the basic techniques of vocal production, pitch controls, tone production, and breathing through various exercises and demonstrations in a choral/group setting.

The above are just a sample of the many, many classes being offered, so be sure to check out the full selection. And they take place at two locations: Glen Echo Park and Wintergreen Plaza in Rockville. Days, times, and rates vary by class — details are available on the Adventure Theatre website.
