Halloween is still a couple of months away, but it’s not too early to start planning for one of DC’s most beloved fall traditions: Boo at the Zoo!
The National Zoo’s annual Halloween extravaganza returns this October with family-friendly fun, giving kids a chance to get into the spooky spirit while exploring the Zoo. Tickets go on sale to the public today, so if it’s on your family’s fall calendar, now is a good time to save the date and start making plans for this always-popular event.
This year’s Boo at the Zoo takes place Friday, October 16, through Sunday, October 18, getting the Halloween celebration started early. Little (and big) Zoo-goers can dress up in their costumes for an evening of trick-or-treating, festive entertainment, and after-hours access to the Zoo.
Along with more than 25 treat stations where guests can fill up souvenir bags, there will be playful scenes with frolicking skeletons and more fun decor, a pumpkin patch photo opportunity, and a whimsical kids’ dance party.
Families can also duck indoors to visit the Small Mammal House, Elephant Community Center, and Reptile Discovery Center exhibits, which will be open every evening. Food from local vendors, spins on the Speedwell Conservation Carousel, and rides aboard the National Zoo Choo Choo will be available for an additional fee.
General admission tickets go on sale today, August 27, for $35 (tickets for members are $29.75). Each attendee over the age of 2 will need a ticket. Be sure to snag yours soon — Boo at the Zoo usually sells out!
