Five Things: June 24, 2024

1. The Smithsonian Folklife Festival begins this Wednesday, June 26!  This year the multi-day event celebrates the National Museum of the American Indian with a theme of Indigenous Voices of the Americas. You can see and experience all kinds exhibits, demonstrations, live performances, talks, food, markets, and much more on the National Mall from 3rd-7th Streets, much of it right next to the NMAI, with some activities inside, too.  The festival runs daily through July 1. Hours are 11am – 5:30pm, with evening concerts Friday – Sunday, 5:30-7pm.  Admission is free! Check the schedule of events to help plan your visit as well as the guide for kids and families.

2. The Friday Night Concert Series at Yards Park is back for the summer starting this weekend!  Perfekt Blend, a local band that performs covers of all kinds of music, will kick off the weekly fun this Friday, July 28, at 7pm. Go early to let the kids play in the water features, then picnic on the grass by the boardwalk (BYO or purchase food there), and plan on some dancing, too.  Admission is free!

3. This hot week is a good time to highlight Swimply, a service that lets you search for and rent private pools in the area (and beyond). You can find pools at residences all over and pay to use them by the hour.  The KFDC Summer Guide has info on even more pools around the area.

4. Just bought one of these for summer travel.  With all the essentials, it’s great to have on hand, plus it’s small and easy to pack.

5. How cute is this?
