Five Things: January 16, 2024

A past snow day on Capitol Hill

1. Snow day!  If you’re looking for ideas for inside outings, The Great Indoors list has loads of them. It’s a good day to visit an off-the-beaten-path museum or go someplace that offers fun and games indoors.  And if you’re hoping to take advantage of the surprise day off from school by zipping down hills, you can find a huge round-up of sledding spots around the DC area here.

2. Get revved up for the Washington Auto Show!  The annual showcase of hundreds of makes and models of cars will be at the Washington Convention Center from January 19-28.  And if there’s any “grown-up” event that is equally fun for kids and adults, this is it.   The Auto Show is like a Truck Touch, but with automobiles on display for guests to check out. Other activities like a driving area and bouncy fun for kids, opportunities for test drives, an exotic car display, a classic car zone, and so much more will give guests even more to do and see. Tickets are $15-20 age 13+, $7/child. Get a glimpse and an idea of what to expect in KFDC posts about it here and here.

3. It’s Washington Restaurant Week!  Through January 21, DC restaurants will be offering 3-course lunches and brunches for $25 and $35, and 3-course dinners for $40, $55, and $65.  Some of our kid-friendly faves are in the mix including La Collina, Maketto, Jaleo, Joselito, All Purpose Pizza, Ambar, Duke’s Grocery, Mi Vida, Oyamel, The Salt Line, and Zaytinya.  And you can read about all of them in the  KFDC round-up of family-friendly restaurant picks.

4. If this winter weather has you scrambling for winter gear, you can get it quickly from Amazon.  Find kids’ snow suitskids’ snow boots, adult boots, waterproof gloves,  and of course, sleds. Even if you don’t have them in time for this snow day, you’ll get use out of them later.

5. (Not so) Guilty Pleasure: Emmys red carpet fashion.  My favorite was this.  What was yours?
