Five Things: October 25, 2023

1. There are a lot of Halloween events coming up this weekend ahead of the actual holiday next week, so get ready for them with the round-up of Wicked Fun Ways to Celebrate Halloween Around DC in 2023!

2. This new exhibition in the sculpture garden at the Kreeger Museum looks and sounds fantastic.  Have you visited the off-the-beaten-path museum in the Foxhall-Palisades area?  Read more about it in this KFDC post.

3. Ideas for fall getaways in Virginia.

4. I’ve shared this before, but in the lead-up to the holiday season, it’s a good time to share again:  Rakuten is an online service that gives you cash back when you shop stores within its network — and pretty much all major stores are part of it.  You can even install a widget, so that a notification will pop up anytime you’re on a site affiliated with Rakutan (and it’s not annoying) to activate the cash-back opportunity.  There’s no catch, just money back, and it adds up!

5. Whether or not you’re a Taylor Swift fan, this feature about attending a concert on The Eras Tour is outstanding!  Written by Taffy Brodesser-Akner (the brilliant author of Fleishman is in Trouble), the piece is a deep dive into Taylor Swift’s discography, lyrics, and journey into pop stardom along with a funny, evocative account of the concert experience and how fans relate to Swift and each other.  So good! I shared it via gift link, so it’s free to read.

BONUS! Wayfair is having a huge Way Day sale, where you can score some amazing deals on furniture, home decor, and other housewares.  Some things that caught my eye: This immersion blender set, this pretty coffee table, this patio set, this smokeless fire pit, this ceiling fan, these bath towels, this rug, And if anyone happens to be renovating right now, this sale is a jackpot for items like bathroom vanities, bath tubs, kitchen faucets, and cabinet hardware.  It only runs through October 26, so go check it out ASAP!
