Exploring Kingman Island by bike
1. It looks like the rain is done for now, and we’ve got a few beautiful days ahead! The KFDC round-up of the best places around the area to hang outdoors is loaded with ideas for enjoying them. A specific rec: Visit Kingman Island in Northeast DC. There are wooden bridges to cross over the Anacostia, easy trails to hike or bike, wildlife to spy, and tables where you can enjoy a picnic. For even more activity, head to the playground at RFK Fields located right next to the parking lot. Admission to both the park and playground are free.
2. Ford’s Theatre reopens tomorrow, October 14. The historic site of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination is a fascinating place to visit — read about touring it in this KFDC post.
