Five Things for Today: September 12, 2020

1. Fruits and veggies aren’t the only things to PYO at local farms and orchards.  Flowers are also available for picking, too.  Gather a bouquet at Butler’s Orchard.    It’s the final weekend of the Sunflower Festival at Summers Farm in Frederick, and you can bring some brightness home with you, too.  Larriland Farm in Woodbine, MD, has many different colorful flowers.  And you can see where else to select some stems in this round-up of pick-your-own places around the area.  Of course, plan to harvest some produce, too, while you’re there!

2. COVID hasn’t canceled the annual Old Town Alexandria Art Festival. In its 18th year, the event is on today and tomorrow, though in a new location at John Carlyle Square and with designated time slots to encourage social distancing. Follow the link to register.

3. Plan a fall road trip!

4.  If you are looking for book recs, check out the comments from this Cup of Jo post about readers’ top 3 books.  I just added a bunch to my “Want to Read” list.

5. A guaranteed smile (maybe even giggle) inducer.
