Five Things for Today: August 30

A paddle boarder on the Potomac seen from the Capital Crescent Trail

1. How about combining a couple of outdoor activities to take advantage of the nice weather?  Bike the Capital Crescent Trail along the C&O Canal from Georgetown to Fletcher’s Cove, then rent canoes, kayaks, or paddle boards for some fun on the river (or you can just do one or the other).  And, of course, you can start the bike ride farther out or extend it down the trail.  See more about the venture in this old KFDC post and this more recent one.

2.  If you prefer to stay on land on foot, Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD,  is a lovely place for nature walks with kids.  The grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk, and admission is free.

3.  With kids distance learning this fall, we’re going to be eating a lot of lunches at home, so here are some ideas that sound good for little palates — and big ones, too.
