Every Wednesday 10:30-11am for the next four weeks, join them for a live session of artistic playtime with teaching and guest artists à la Opera Lafayette. They will also share ideas about how to play on throughout the week. It’s recommended for families with children 3 – 6 years old. Sign up for today’s free session here.
2. The Lane Social Club reopens on Friday with their rooftop beer garden/events space where ALL are invited. Kids are welcome, but not required. They’ll be serving all of your favorite picnic foods + drinks (and ice cream). Table reservations are $5, and seatings begin at 3pm — make yours here!
3. Mayor Bowser announced that Slow Streets will be introduced in DC. Stretches of roads, one in each ward, will be blocked off for local traffic only and the speed limit reduced to 15mph, giving residents more space for socially distant recreation. This starts with five miles of slow streets this week, and eventually will be up to 20 miles. (The linked NPR article has details on the slow street locations.)
4. Yelp’s growing collection of black-owned businesses in the DMV to support.

Linda–I just wanted to send a much belated thank you. We moved here 7 years ago when the kids were little ones (3 and 5 years old) and this blog has essentially been our go to planner for the week’s activities. We have recommended it to countless numbers of families both living here in DC and those who are visiting. We live in DC and have been able to learn so much about our adopted home (and the surrounding area) through so many of your suggestions. And your blog posts during COVID-19 have been especially helpful. Lastly, I want to specifically commend you on your incredibly important posts and coverage these past few weeks around police brutality and the killing of George Floyd. These are challenging times and it is important that our children are made aware of the stark inequities in our country. Like your family, we are a very active bunch and have found your posts to be on point and essential for families during these challenging times. So a much belated post of gratitude and keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for your note, Michael. I love hearing that my blog has helped your family discover DC for so many years. And I really appreciate the feedback about my recent posts. Using this platform to share information and raise awareness about what’s happening now (and issues that have been simmering far too long) feels like the right thing to do — an opportunity and responsibility. But as I told another reader yesterday, I’m just sharing content created by others, so credit really goes to them.
