This post is sponsored by Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), however, I only promote events, programs, and places that I genuinely believe in and think will be of interest to KFDC readers.
My name is Holly Chang, I have been a Takoma Park resident for a little over 10 years and parent of two girls attending schools at both TPES and PBES. Tracy Scott who is also a local parent along with our spouses, local business owners, volunteers and I with the help of Laura Barclay hosted the inaugural Takoma Park Children’s Business Fair in May of this year at the lawn area of the SDA Church. You are welcome to check out our site but personally I think the photos speak for itself.
A little about the event, it is a one day fair where children between the ages 6-14 are invited to create products or services and in an entrepreneurial spirit try to conduct sales of their personal goods to the public at large visiting the Fair. This year we invited local entrepreneurs as judges and prizes were given as the following three categories: Most Original Business Idea, Best Branding/Marketing and Best Sales Presentation/Pitch. Our goal is to host this fair as a Takoma Park annual event for kids to acquire essential entrepreneurial skills – creativity, critical thinking, time management and collaboration, etc. We want children to understand that success doesn’t always come easy. Success, in fact, is all about trying, learning and getting better.
Our inaugural fair this past May was sponsored entirely by the generosity of our local business owners listed below. We used the majority of the funding for tent/table rentals, marketing materials and prizes for the winning young entrepreneurs. Since then, we are proud to announce that we are now a registered 501c3 non-profit organization.
