The Weekend Round-Up: July 19-21

Ready for blast off 🚀🌕

Happy Weekend!

A Monumental Sight

When: Thursday, 9:30-11:30pm
Admission: Free

View the Washington Monument in a whole new light. A 363-foot Saturn V, the rocket that launched the Apollo 11 into orbit, will be projected on the east face. We went to see it last night, and while gawking at an obelisk lit up by a large-scale image might sound like a simple thing to do, it was quite an awesome “Only in DC” experience, elevated by the excitement of the many other Washingtonians who were there to get a glimpse, too. It will be even more elaborate on Friday and Saturday (see below). For more ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, see this post.

You should add the Washington Spirit games to your list of events. They have two of the world cup champions and a couple women from other teams. This Saturday’s game is going to be a cooker, but maybe the next one.

  2. Linda @ KidFriendly DC

Thanks for the suggestion/reminder! I have included them in the past but completely forgot this one. Will add it in – there are bound to be folks who will brave the heat.

  3. Karen Mazie

Love your site, it’s my go to for stuff to do.
Do you have a calendar view for the weekend events? Somehow seeing events as blocks of time helps me organize my time better😊

    Thanks!

    • Linda @ KidFriendly DC

Hi Karen – So glad you enjoy my blog! I don’t have a calendar view — I used to have a huge calendar, but it became very tedious to keep updated. You’re not the first person to ask about this, though, so maybe I’ll bring back a simpler version. Thanks for the input!
