Monday – Spend the first day of summer break (for some kids, anyway) at a cool place: The Spy Museum! At its new location in L’Enfant Plaza, go undercover to explore the intriguing world of espionage. Discover tricks of the trade, view gadgets used to keep secrets and disguises to hide identities, learn about famous spies and their missions, and much more. Hours are 9am – 7pm. Regular admission is $22.95-24.95/adult, $14.95/ages 7-11, free for 6 and under (adults save $2 purchasing tickets in advance online).
Tuesday – Catch a FREE screening of Sherlock Gnomes presented by Old Greenbelt Theatre. Every Tuesday at 1pm, they’ll be featuring a family-friendly movie as part of the School’s Out Summer Series that runs through August 27. The films will be shown at Greenbelt Community Center Gym located at 15 Centerway in Greenbelt, MD.
Wednesday – Venture out to Calvert County, MD, to Annmarie Sculpture Garden for some enchanting artistic adventures. View eye-popping works, both indoors and out, look for fairy houses, play in the delightful Fairy Lolly, and create some of your own art with inspiration from all you see there. Trust me, it’s worth the hour-plus drive. Hours are 9am – 5pm in the gardens, 10am – 5pm at the arts center. Admission is $5/adult, $3/ages 6-17, free for 5 and under.
Thursday – Experience Infinite Space, the newest exhibition at ARTECHOUSE. Six immersive digital art installations will delight and amaze, and some will make you feel like you’re floating in, well, infinite space. Family-friendly hours are 10am -5pm. Admission is $16/adult, $8/age 2+.
Friday – Celebrate the first official day of summer with a quintessential seasonal activity: Swimming! Jump in at a public pool, which as of this week are open daily through Labor Day. Even better, they’re free (or a small fee if you’re not a resident of the District or county where it’s located). Check out the 2019 Summer Guide for links to public pools in the area and be sure to note open swim times, as they may vary from pool to pool.
