Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods Returns to Wolf Trap for the Summer!

Literally tucked in the woods at Wolf Trap National Park and across the meadow from the Filene Center, Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods has been a summer tradition for generations of children and families. Whether it’s epic storytelling, eye-popping puppetry, or engaging music and dance, every show is designed to ignite a lifelong love for performing arts.

All shows are about an hour long and are perfect for children ages 4 and up. The season starts this Tuesday, June 19, with Michael & The Rockness Monsters! Other highlights this summer include Soul in Motion, Vital Theatre Company’s The Wizard of Oz, David Engel’s Wizard Academy!, Story Pirates, Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats, and more! See the full schedule at wolftrap.org/woods.

After every show, you and your child can Stay and Play fun games, meet the artists, and participate in National Park Service activities. Select shows offer free, exclusive post-performance workshops with the artists. Register for these workshops to learn about and experience the science behind musical instruments with Michael & The Rockness Monsters on June 19, music recording with The Happy Racers on June 26, Afro-Caribbean music and dance with Semilla Cultural on July 31, and the story of a musical journey with Sonia De Los Santos on August 2.

The Pop Ups perform on the outdoor stage

On Junior Ranger days at Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, children can enjoy outdoor activities with a National Park Ranger and earn their Junior Ranger Badge! Junior Ranger Days for summer 2018 are July 7 (The Pop Ups), July 19 (Alphabet Rockers), and August 1 (Natyabhoomi School of Indian Dance).

Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods offers programming Tuesdays through Saturdays from June 19 – August 4. All shows begin at 10:30am. Tickets are $8-12 and can be purchased online or at the Box Office (though advance purchase is recommended as shows could sell out). Read about our very first experience at the series here.

See you in the woods!
