Did you know Montgomery Parks has two indoor ice rinks? That’s right, no matter the weather or the season, you can skate at Wheaton Ice Arena and Cabin John Ice Rink. Both offer public skating sessions during the week and on weekends — all year ’round!
Several types of public sessions take place at both rinks, including a Family Cheapskate and Parent & Tot Skate that are perfect times to bring little ones. And if your kids are newbie skaters or want to learn new skills, you can sign them up for lessons, everything from group instruction to ice hockey.
Even more, there is also space for affordable and fun parties, a great option for celebrating kids birthdays any time of year!
Wheaton Ice Arena is located at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue in Wheaton, MD, and Cabin John Ice Rink is located at 10610 Westlake Drive in Rockville, MD. Regular admission is $7/ages 11 and up, $5.50/ages 5-10, $3.50/ages 3-4. Skate rentals are $3.25. Admission rates vary during some special skate sessions.

I like to go on hikes (when not too cold) or play indoor soccer.
Actually ice skating is my favorite activity for kids in winter time.
Also like to go on hikes and take in the beauty of winter:-)
We love to explore the museums downtown!
My daughter’s new favorite activity is ice skating so we hope to be doing a lot of that this winter!
Our family likes to ski or hike to stay active in the winter.
My favorite way to stay active with the kids in the winter is to build an indoor obstacle course in our basement. It’s a great way to have fun, get moving and be creative.
Our family stays active during the cold weather with indoor winter soccer, ice skating, hikes and dog walks. With hot chocolate on the menu! 🙂 Happy holidays!
We like biking in Sligo Creek
Skating!
I love to ice skate even though I grew up in the tropics, but I can’t get my kids to get excited about it.
My older son is the only one who seems interested in learning, but the two younger ones, have resisted to do it every time we’ve been to the ice staking ring. I will keep trying though!
we are going to try tennis
Although we love to ice skate, a not-so-hidden gem is Wilson Aquaric Center. So much fun for the whole family!!
We do Just Dace on the wii
Dancing, playing tag keeps us going!
Wintry walks!
Our favorite way to stay active during the winter is playing at our local My Gym!
We love to go swimming
Building snow forts outside and having indoor snowball fights inside.
Ice skating with little friends, kids choreographing their own dance performances, then performing them for us adults in front of a fire with their favorite songs, hot chocolate (kids), red wine (adults), and baked goodies for all to re-energize afterwards! 🙂
Brisk walks in the winter breeze definitely gets our blood pumping and breathing in that fresh cold wintery air quickly awakens us.
The best thing about living in DC in the winter is all the free museums. I like to spend time with the kids at one of the museums.
