Monday – Go for Story Time at the National Postal Museum, the monthly program that includes a book reading, plus other activities for little ones in the museum’s education space. Stay after to explore the rest of the museum — it’s full of interactive exhibits that all ages can enjoy — read more about them in this KFDC post. Story time is at 10:30am and repeated at 11am. Admission is free.

Tuesday – Venture up to Baltimore for Fun Family Activities at Port Discovery. Along with many levels full of awesome hands-on exhibits, there are special programs to take advantage of, including story time, music sessions, and science demos. Museum hours are 9:30am – 4:30pm. Admission is $14.50 for ages 2 and up (free for under 2).

Wednesday – Hike among the woods and wetlands of Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria. Turtles, frogs, and birds are among the wildlife you could see. Stop by the visitor center for even more exhibits and animal encounters. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk, and admission is free.

Thursday – Learn about the area’s wildlife, enjoy hands-on activities in the Nature Center, take a hike, visit horses, and treat the kids to a pony ride at Rock Creek Park. The Nature Center is open Wednesday – Sunday, 9am – 5pm, and admission is free. You can also visit the Horse Center for free, and pony rides are $20 at 3pm & 3:30pm Tuesday – Thursday. Friday – Experience the magic of the Land Down Under at the Smithsonian Ripley Center, where Discovery Theater presents An Australian Adventure with Barefoot Puppets. Showtimes are 10:15am and 11:30am. Tickets are $3-8.
