Fresh summer produce at Eastern Market

1. You can stock up on fresh produce, baked goods, and meats while maintaining social distance at Eastern Market’s Tuesday Market, which runs weekly this summer. Other special offerings including cooking demos and free yoga (11m – 12pm) and Zumba (1-2pm) classes. It’s also close to the new playground at the Eastern Market Metro Park, where the kids can romp around.

2. National Harbor has some new boating options that allow for social distancing and fun on the water. Monumental Boat Tours has a new boat, Craigcat, that can be rented for tours of the Potomac from Mount Vernon to DC. Each boat accommodates one or two people and a guide goes along in a separate boat. There is also the Float Boat 360 that allows a group with room to socially distance and bring your own beverages for a fun day on the water (I did this for a friend’s birthday last summer, and it was really fun). And if you’re up for it, the Capital Wheel is open along with shops and restaurants. This FAQ page has info on safety precautions being taken and more info about their reopening.

3. The National Museum of Women in the Arts reopens on August 1. Timed entry tickets are required and can be purchased online — $10/adult, free for kids.

4. The new Michelle Obama Podcast debuts on tomorrow!

5. Opinions on whether or not students should return to school… from kids.

Is there a way to see NYT articles without a membership? It’s very frustrating to follow a link and then be blocked from reading something you post.

Hmmm, I thought all of their coronovirus-related material was free, but it’s possible the op ed here isn’t counted. Try copying and pasting the link in a new browser — you do get a certain number of articles free per month. (Though an online subscription is worth it, imo!)

Hi Linda! Do you happen to know if the farmers market at Eastern Market is open on the weekends? I’m your neighbor so should know…but keep forgetting to check on the weekends.

Hi Liza – It is open! Smaller than it was pre-COVID, but nice to have it back. And there are safety measures in place — specific entrance and exit, plus masks and social distancing are enforced.
