Five Things for Today: May 20, 2020

Huntley Meadows is one of the many Fairfax Parks that will be accessible again by Friday

1. The Fairfax County Parks Authority will begin reopening parking lots and parks today, and all of them will be open by Friday in time for the holiday weekend. (Previously, some parks were still open, but could only be accessed on foot or bike.) Facilities and restrooms will remain closed. A few you can read more about here on the blog: Huntley Meadows, Riverbend, and Scott’s Run Nature Preserve.

2. Not sure about it’s proposed use as a Zoom alternative, but papier-mâché heads would make for a neat project with kids. (Anyone else is reminded of their childhood just hearing the term papier-mâché?)

3. Maybe it’s because they’re little portions, but these muffin pan recipes sound fun to try making with kids — and for everyone to eat!

4. The end of an era… Kramberbooks, a DC institution, will be moving from its Dupont Circle location where it’s been since 1976.

5. A fun show with kids: We just watched Magic for Humans on Netflix and were all amazed by Justin Willman’s tricks. A fun binge for adults: Upload on Amazon Prime Video is an interesting concept and a really good mix of comedy and suspense.
