Five Things for Today: May 9, 2020

Seen on a recent neighborhood walk

1. If you’re still looking for ways to celebrate Mother’s Day while social distancing, this round-up I posted a few days ago has ideas.

2. There’s now another option for an outdoor activity… Shlagel Farms has opened its pick-your-own strawberry fields. Be sure to read their rules before you go, and be aware that this will likely draw a lot of people, so take that into consideration and plan accordingly. Opens at 10am.

3. Help local businesses survive while spending grocery dollars for good! Choco Market DC is a grocery delivery for charity service helping restaurant suppliers sell directly to consumers. They’re donating all proceeds from the initiative to the nonprofit RAMW/Hook Hall Helps, which provides free meals to vulnerable communities in the DC Metro economically affected by COVID such as health care workers, first responders, school children, and restaurant workers. Minimum orders are $90 for free safe (contactless) next day delivery and customers get access to a variety of high quality fresh fruits, vegetables and household goods used by the best restaurants in DC.

4. A few good movies we recently watched (or rewatched) and enjoyed: The Half of It on Netflix (new and really good), What About Bob? (a classic), and Fantastic Mr. Fox (a Wes Anderson fave).

5. Such a beautiful, collaborative dance for a cause.
