Monday – Play, learn, and explore at the National Museum of American History! Wegmans Wonderplace, the activity center designed especially for children 0-6 years old, is full of features that cater to curious young visitors. If you’re with older kids, check out the Spark!Lab right next door. Of course, the rest of the museum is great to tour, too. Hours at Wegmans Wonderplace are 10am – 4pm, and free admission is on a first come, first served basis. The museum is open 10am – 5:30pm.
Tuesday – Take little ones to a performance of Arts on the Horizon’s Squeakers and Mr. Gumdrop at The Lab at Convergence in Alexandria. Showtime is 10:30am, and tickets are $10. (Note that it’s running through December 21, with other performances this week, too.)
Wednesday – Jump with joy at Flight Trampoline Park in Springfield, VA. This bouncy nirvana hosts Kid’s Flight sessions, when the whole park is open only to children under the age of 6, from 9-10am Monday through Saturday, with special pricing starting at $12/hour (and an accompanying adult jumps free). From 10am – 8pm is Open Jump for all ages with a special Kiddie Court area for ages 6 and under — admission is $21/ages 7+, and $12/6 & under. I recommend buying tickets and submitting waivers online in advance to save time when you get there.
Thursday – Enjoy loads of free, fun activities at Watkins Regional Park. The Nature Center is great on a cold day, bringing the outside indoors with lots of cool creatures and birds to see. If weather permits, kiddos will love frolicking on the adorable Wizard of Oz themed playground. You can walk from there to Old Maryland Farm, which also has animals to visit and feed. Park hours are dawn to dusk, 10am – 5:30pm at the Nature Center, and 9am – 4pm at Old Maryland Farm. Admission is free.
Friday – Get hyped for the holidays! Pick one of many activities that happen this time of year: Check out a train display, catch a holiday show, ride trolleys, meet Santa, see an evening light display, and enjoy loads of other seasonal delights. The KFDC 2019 Guide to the Holiday Season in DC has all the details on where to go and what to do. (And note that you can do many activities any day of the week!)
