Where to Play on the Weekdays: October 21-25

Enjoy the lovely fall weather and foliage on a hike

Monday – Take a hike! According to the forecast, the rain will clear up and it’ll be nice weather for hitting the trail. Do some leaf peeping, try to spot wildlife, take in pretty scenery, and enjoy some active fun along with a nice dose of nature. This post about local walks in the woods has a bunch of suggestions for outings with little hikers.

Tuesday – Giddy up on over to the Washington Horse Show. From October 22 to October 27, there will be equestrian competition and entertainment at Capitol One Arena for the public to view and enjoy. Even more, on this opening day general admission is only $2 ($15 other days, free for children 12 and under). Doors open at 7am.

*In the evening, watch the NATS IN THE WORLD SERIES!*

Wednesday – Enjoy the fall day at River Farm. The American Horticulture Society’s headquarters overlooking the Potomac River in Alexandria are as lovely as they are fun. Little ones will have a blast playing in the delightful Children’s Garden, and you’ll all love exploring the grounds. Hours are 9am – 5pm. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

*In the evening, watch the NATS IN THE WORLD SERIES!*

Thursday – Play the day away at Anacostia Park. The locale stretching along the Anacostia River in SE DC is full of opportunities for recreation with a pirate-themed playground; two other playgrounds; a skating pavilion; a nature center; tennis courts; and fields for playing ball or tossing a Frisbee. Plus, you can walk, run, or bike along the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail or just find a table or nice spot in the grass to relax, have a picnic, and take in the views. Hours are dawn to dusk, 11am – 5:45pm for skating, and 10am – 2pm at the Education Center. Admission is free.

Friday – Go to the free Public Day at the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2019) to find out what living and working in space feels like, meet astronauts, and explore an exhibit hall the size of three football fields. The event takes place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 7:30am – 5pm. Registration is required.
